Your Membership Data

Falmouth & Exeter Students’ Union (FXU) is the students union at Falmouth University and University of Exeter (Cornwall campuses).

When a student registers at the University, you automatically become a member of the FXU, which means you have a say in what we do and how we work as well as access to the range of support, advice, representation, entertainment and other activates.

In order for us to provide these services to members a data sharing agreement exists between the two Universities and the FXU which allows them to share basic information (Name, University email address etc) with us.

During registration students will also be asked to share information defined as ‘sensitive’ by the Data Protection Act 1998. For example, this would include information about a students’ ethnicity.

FXU uses this data to ensure that the representation and services it provides are as accessible as possible.

To opt out of sharing any information with us, students should email or visit either the FXU offices on the Penryn or Falmouth campuses stating you wish to opt out of sharing information with the FXU.

This information will be passed to your University to ensure that your data does not continue to be passed to FXU.

If you choose to share limited information (i.e. not your ‘sensitive’ data) then you can still access the full range of the FXU services to you. By opting out of sharing any information with FXU, you compromise your ability to vote in elections, join societies or make the most of your membership.

You can change your mind and ask for your information to be shared at a later date in the year, if you wish. There may be a slight delay in your information going back onto our system however, whilst we wait for the data from the University.
