There are two types of general meeting; a Union General Meeting (UGM) and an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

UGM - Union General Meeting

(UGM) Union General Meeting is a meeting, held once termly, open to all students. Trustees may also call an extra General Meeting at any time if they are requested to by at least 2.5% of the student body.

#Who attends?

Any University of Exeter or Falmouth University student studying on any campus in Cornwall is encouraged to attend, as well as FXU elected representatives. Normally the Student Voice Chair will chair the meeting. At least 50 students need to be present in order to vote on issues affecting students.

What does it do?

The UGM is a meeting which shares information and updates between the students and the elected representatives, as well as ensuring that these elected reps remain accountable to the students. All Presidents and Student Council are required to give an update on their projects, and any progress made. 

Any student studying at Falmouth or Penryn campus can:

  • Suggest agenda points
  • Propose a Motion
  • Ask open questions of their elected representatives

 

AGM - Annual General Meeting

(AGM) Annual General Meeting is an annual meeting open to all students. It must be held once a year, although one of these may be a Union General Meeting.

Who attends?

Any University of Exeter or Falmouth University student studying on any campus in Cornwall is encouraged to attend, as well as FXU elected representatives. Normally the Student Voice Chair will chair the meeting. At least 50 students need to be present in order to vote on issues affecting students.

What does it do?

The AGM has a similar purpose to a UGM, in that it shares information and updates between the students and the Union. However, more than this, it also ensures that the whole of FXU is remaining accountable to the students.

  • FXU Trustees report on the Union's activities
  • A decision will be made on which organisations the Students Union affiliates with  - e.g. National Union of Students (NUS)
  • An update on FXU finance, including how much money FXU has received and spent
  • All Presidents and Student Council are required to update on their projects
  • Any motions will be put to a vote
