FXU Debating Union is a platform for members to debate, improve advocacy skills and socialize. We are a newly affiliated society and are constantly growing - we are hoping to start debating competitions next year. We also want to offer workshops for people to improve their debating and advocacy skills, as well as learn how to compete in debating competitions nationally.
EVERYONE is welcome - of all views, backgrounds, and abilities. We encourage inclusivity and controversial but respectful debate. Everyone has a voice and can use this platform as a means of sharing their opinions.
We have run several successful events so far, like a 'welcome' taster debate, as well as a collaboration with History Society to mark 100 years of women having the vote on the 6th of February. We raised money for West Cornwall Women's Aid by running a film screening of Suffragette and holding a bake sale.
Debates will be held bi-weekly, and will usually be on a controversial topic. We are collaborating with several societies, and welcome any suggestions for collaborations.
