Register to vote in the General Election on June 8th – supported by FXU:

Prime Minister Theresa May announced her intention to hold a snap General Election to be held on Thursday June 8th 2017, it also looks certain to pass in Parliament this Wednesday with other political parties saying they will back the motion.

A key area of FXU’s work is to ensure your voice is heard, and we are supporting students to register to vote.

We firmly believe that all students of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter who are eligible, should register to vote in the upcoming General Election and will do what we can to support you to have your say. The result of this general election alongside Brexit, could bring huge potential reforms to higher education and many other decisions/conversations that will impact the lives of students - it is arguably more important than ever that students register and use their vote!

We’ve detailed below several options to enable you to register to vote, and we advise that all students think ahead to where they will be on June 8th:

-------------------------------------

For UK/Home students;

Head to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to register online - it takes less than 5 minutes, you must be 18 on or before June 8th to be eligible and you need your National Insurance Number. If you do not have this please click 'I do not have my National Insurance Number' and the electoral office can run your details against the University Register.This form is available in other languages too via this link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/voter-registration-forms-paper-versions The deadline to register to vote is still to be announced, but the sooner you do so the better!

For international students;

Students from Commonwealth countries and the Republic of Ireland living in the UK are eligible to vote in the UK General Election June 2017. If you want to see whether you’re eligible to vote, follow this link: http://www.aboutmybote.co.uk/who_can_register_to_vote.aspx

Applying for a proxy of postal votes (study abroad students):

If you cannot physically be present to vote on June 8th then you’re entitled to apply for a postal or proxy vote. The forms that you need to complete to secure this are available here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/410339/Proxy_voting_form_temporarily_away_from_home.pdf   the sooner you can sort this out the better.
