The recent changes to the benefits system, with the new Universal Credit, will be putting many of thousands across Cornwall under great pressure in providing for themselves and their families. The number of people using their local foodbanks in the approaching months is likely to increase, dramatically putting a great strain on the availability of resources for foodbanks.
As the festive TV adverts begin to roll out, and with Christmas on the horizon, the spirit of communities coming together will become paramount. Every tin of sauce, jar of jam, bag of pasta or bottle of shower gel will make a difference to help alleviate the pressures on our local community. FXU GeogSoc are working with the ‘Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank’ to help deliver these resources to support those most vulnerable from the proposed changes.
FXU GeogSoc have set up multiple donation points across the university where you can donate food and non-perishable items. These points can be found at;
- The FXU offices
- The Compass
- The Peter Lanyon Staff Room
Please consider donating any of the items that are detailed on the Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank website.
