Health and Wellbeing

Health, happiness and academic success are all linked. You will not be able to achieve your academic potential if you are ill and stressed out! FXU is here to help you to get the most out of your time at university.
Emotional health and wellbeing includes feeling happy, getting involved in university life and taking time for yourself. For some of you this will be the first time you will have lived away from home. It is quite normal to feel homesick. Homesickness can give you physical symptoms as well as mental problems. You are not alone - lots of students suffer - but don’t forget, there are several support services within the university who can help you with this or any other emotional problem you encounter. The Students' Union has lots of activities for you to get involved in. Check out the Sports and Societies and Community Action web pages.
Sometimes your health may affect your ability to study. If this is the case, please have a look at the Academic section of our webpages, which has links to regulations and procedures for extenuating/mitigating circumstances.
Late nights, drinking and too much fast food play havoc with your health. You will not be able to concentrate properly and may get ill easier. Make sure you are eating healthily and getting enough rest.
You may be able to get help with your health costs through the NHS Low Income Scheme. You can pick up an HC1 or HC5 (refund claim) form from your doctor's surgery or a pharmacist. For more information about this scheme have a look at the NHS Choices website and find out when the best time to apply is.
