Falmouth University's course cessations

Read on for the official statement from your FXU Presidents.

In Falmouth University there has been the announcement of the course cessations of BA(Hons) Contemporary Crafts, BA(Hons) Digital Media and BA(Hons) Theatre. Since this announcement, FXU has been in conversations with the University to find out what the next steps will be. Falmouth University has spent the last few days preparing for their ‘teach out’ plans, which will be announced to the students affected, outlining the future plans of the courses, from facilities, staffing, intermittence and resources, with FAQs for students and an opportunity to answer any questions which are not already addressed.

As a result of the wider community's reaction to the closure of some of the courses, we have urged the University to release a statement to give an insight into their reasonings for the cessations. We believe this will help the public to understand why the University has taken this decision. We would also ask that they confirm that no more courses in the current portfolio are at risk of cessation.

It has been agreed that FXU will be involved in any discussions regarding course changes in the future.

It is the priority of FXU, especially the Presidents, to ensure that you all feel supported and that the quality of your degrees do not feel a detrimental effect due to the cessations. I would like to reiterate to the student body that we are working hard to make sure your courses maintain the quality without a reduction in staffing, resources or space. Please do not hesitate to contact Ellie via email, ellie.scouller@fxu.org.uk, or in person in the FXU offices.
