FXU works with FE to respond to the government

The FXU response to the government green paper for education was made with feedback from our own FXU members in Cornwall, but also with help from students from Cornwall College Students Union (CCSU).

Late last year the government released a 105 page Green Paper with new proposals for Higher Education (HE). The proposed changes outlined in the document were the most drastic changes to HE since 1992 and as such Students' Unions across the country rushed to respond within the tight deadline.

The National Union of Students (NUS) provided a useful summary of the Green Paper in 2 pages, this enabled us to digest the key areas of impact and formulate a planned response from FXU.

Our plan included:

  • Outlining a number of questions that linked to the 'key areas of impact' and producing a presentation and questionnaire
  • Conducting feedback sessions with Postgraduate students
  • Conducting feedback with Undergraduates on campus
  • Working with Cornwall College Students' Union (CCSU) to collect feedback from final year college students that may be considering Higher Education next year

As a result, FXU was able to produce an evidence based response to the questions that we felt most affected our membership. As the deadline for responding was at the start of January it was a real challenge to complete and submit an informed response within the timeframe.

If anyone can... FXU can!
