‘Volunteering has made me feel like a real member of the community, not just a visitor ’
Mette Walsted, Student Volunteer, UCF Graphic Design
FXU Community Action is here to give every single student the opportunity to participate in what is going on in the local community, to offer a hand to people who really need it and to develop all sorts of skills that equip you for life and your future employment, by offering a wide range of volunteering activities.
Volunteering is a great way to encounter new challenges, to make friends other than those on your course, to open doors to new experiences, to be part of your community and... of course... to have fun!
DID YOU KNOW? 7% of our students have been involved in FXU Community Action so far this year! This is far higher than the national average.... This must mean that you guys are the very best students!
so Why volunteer?
There are oodles of good reasons to start volunteering. Here are a sprinkling of them:
- makes you feel part of things at uni and in the local community
- gets you some great work experience
- make your CV look super impressive
- lets you 'give something back' to Cornwall
- helps you meet lots of people and hopefully make some good friends
how to get involved?
Becoming a volunteer doesn't mean you have to take on a huge commitment! FXU Community Action always has a variety of opportunities which can fit around the amount of time you have available. On one hand there are a number of organisations who require volunteer support on a ‘one off’ basis to help out with a particular project or event. On the other hand, a regular weekly commitment could make a tremendous difference to a small charity or group and could add a whole new dimension to your life in Cornwall. Maybe there is just no room in your busy term-time schedule and you would prefer to volunteer on holiday schemes in the Christmas or Easter breaks.
Whatever you are able to offer there will be a great opportunity just waiting for you! For information on anything volunteer related contact me, JILL on
