VOLUNTEERING

What is Community Action Volunteering?

FXU Community Action is here to give you all the opportunity to volunteer in the local community during your studies. Volunteering is a great way to encounter new challenges, to make friends other than those on your course, to open doors to new experiences, to be part of your new community and, of course to have fun. It also looks terribly good on your CV.

What can I do?

Volunteering can take on many guises.  It can involve; Community Arts Projects, Working with young people in or out of school, Environmental Projects and Conservation Volunteering, Adult Social Care, Animal welfare, Charity Work, Individual Placements or oodles of other things.

How to get involved?

Becoming a volunteer doesn't mean you have to take on a huge commitment! FXU Community Action always has a variety of opportunities which can fit around the amount of time you have available. The Community Action staff, Jill and Sally, coordinate a programme of weekly volunteering events that you can sign up for anytime.  These normally run on a Saturday or Sunday.  See our programme of WEEKLY VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to these one-off activites we can help you find the type of volunteer placement or project you are after. You may wish to volunteer weekly in a school or with a scout group.  You may wish to paint a community mural in town. You may want to walk someones' dog.  Whatever you feel you would like to do in the community, take a look at our VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES DIRECTORY to see if you can find what you are looking for.  If you can't, don't worry! just let us know and we will try and make it happen.
