FXU

Your Union

FXU (Falmouth & Exeter Students' Union) is a representative and campaigning charity for over 5,000 students of Falmouth University and University of Exeter Cornwall Campus across two campuses, Tremough and Woodlane.

As well as being the student voice and with an annual turnover of half a million pounds, FXU provides numerous events, student advice, sporting and social activities, charity fundraising support and opportunities for volunteering in the community.

All current Falmouth and Exeter students are automatically members of the FXU unless they opt-out. (See Membership in the FXU Bye-laws for further details).

Like other students' unions, FXU is set up as part of the Education Law 1994 which states that all Higher Education and Further Education bodies must allow for student representation, elected by students through a democratic process. Due to charity law and as FXU receives funding from both its parent institutions, which essentially comes from public money and student fees, it is a registered charity. FXU is registered with the Charity Commission to ensure best practice is followed; monies are spent appropriately; and overall, that FXU is doing what it is legally supposed to be doing: enhancing education and welfare for students.

FXU has grown and developed over the years, bringing more and more improvements, services, opportunities and forums for students. One vital asset is that FXU operates as an independent body who can and have challenged the universities on behalf of students and students can come to the FXU for confidential and impartial advice.

It's not all about providing services though. Far from it. FXU is essentially a union of students. This means FXU is you. By collecting together as students through active campaigning, debating, representation and getting the student voice heard you make things happen. It's all about getting the best deal for students and having the university experience that you want. FXU is affiliated with the National Union of Students (NUS) where we gain support, training, resources and networking opportunities with other unions across the country for national student support, debate and an even bigger student collective.

Hugely important is that students lead FXU and that there are so many ways that students can be involved. Search the website for more or pop into the FXU offices at Tremough and Woodlane to see what's happening.
