► Certificates & Awards

Certificates & Awards:
want some recognition/ certification/ evidence of your volunteering?
sometimes it's nice to be able to show that you've done some valuable volunteering. It can be useful to have a reference or a certificate- whether it's for your CV or your Granny's dining room wall. There are various ways of getting this recogniton:

fxu community action:

hoodies and t-shirts: you may have seen our swanky fxu community action t-shirts and hoodies appearing on torsos around campus this year. You can have one of these too! They are not for sale but are given as rewards for community volunteering. If you undertake/ attend 3 community action events (in one academic year) you waill recieve a t-shirt. At the end of each academic year, the 3 students who have volunteered the most/ most often will recieve a gorgeous, warm hoody.

certificates and references: FXU Community Action offer no in-house certificate, but can write you a short reference, stating the volunteering work you have undertaken and the number of hours contributed. This can be tailored to your needs. Just come in to either fxu and ask to speak to me (Jill) or email me communityaction@fxu.org.uk

the v awards: recognition for the amazing things you do:

v, the volunteering organisation behind vinspired.com, is introducing a new recognition scheme for volunteers aged 16 to 25. The v Awards celebrate the efforts and achievements of volunteers aged 16-25 in England and recognise the amazing things you do.

Currently the v Awards are only available to young people who are volunteering in projects that receive funding from v. However, all young volunteers will be able to access these awards on line in January 2009.

v Big Thank You Certificate
If you volunteer with a v funded project you could receive a thank you certificate which recognises that you have given your time to make a difference in your community.

The v50 Award
The v50 Award is available to volunteers who complete 50 hours of volunteering in any twelve-month period (or less). It’s designed to recognise and celebrate the time and effort you have invested, and to show colleges, universities and potential employers the positive impact you’ve had on your community. To receive a v50 Award you will need to complete a log book, and collect evidence (e.g. certificates, photos, posters, letters, newspaper coverage etc) in a folder.

The vImpact Award
The vImpact Award is available to volunteers that have already completed the v50 Award and are keen to take on a new challenge. It’s all about making an impact. Making a difference. Changing the world. And changing yourself for the better.

the exeter award:

The Exeter Award is a brand new achievement award and is designed to enhance your employability by providing official recognition of your extra-curricular activities and achievements. Employers these days are not only looking for candidates with good degrees from good universities (like Exeter) but are expecting you to provide evidence of skills and experience gained beyond your programme of study.

The Exeter Award will help you to stand out from the crowd. You will be up against some 280,000 graduates who enter the labour market each year. Being able to demonstrate your skills and experience to build on your course knowledge is the key to securing a good career. The Exeter Award will require you to register and then complete FOUR compulsory and TWO optional elements. As you will see from the website these include 25 hours of work experience, volunteering, sport or music. Attendance at employer presentations, business games, CV, application and interview sessions can all be counted towards the award. Once the SIX elements have been completed you will need to arrange an appointment with a Careers Adviser. Then it’s Congratulations! The Exeter Award is yours. To help keep a track of your Exeter Award activities your Personal Development Plan (ePDP) will be updated automatically as your attendance at each is recorded. Record the benefits and skills gained here for future use on applications or interview preparation. Your ePDP is a good stepping stone for creating a CV too.

Register for The Exeter Award at www.exeter.ac.uk/exeteraward Any questions please contact Catriona Bell here on campus at Catriona.Bell@exeter.ac.uk
