What is Student Council?
FXU Student Council is the broadest student representative body made up entirely of students to make sure that FXU remains responsive, responsible and accountable to its students. It is also currently the main decision-making and political policy-making body of FXU.
Who are the Student Council?
Members of the Student Council are a cross-section of course reps from University College Falmouth (UCF) and student members of Student-Staff-Liaison Committees from University of Exeter Cornwall Campus (UECC), covering all academic schools/subjects; and also includes Halls reps of
Contact details of all Student Council members 2010-11 will be available here once appointed in the Autumn term 2010.
It is important that you know who your representatives are and how to contact them with issues you would like to raise. They will also do their best to make themselves known to you. If you have any issues over the summer, please contact your FXU Presidents.
Currently, FXU is looking into the membership of the Student Council as part of the governance review it is undertaking this year. FXU wants to make sure that students who are often under-represented in student unions are represented such as international students, mature students, disabled students, part-time students and post-graduate students. If you have any thoughts on this or would like to know more, please contact Janice Mitchelson (FXU Research & Representation Co-ordinator). FXU would particularly like to encourage students from the groups listed above to get in touch.
What do Student Council members do?
Student Council members meet twice a term in a formal student council meeting.
Discuss and vote on political policy and actions for FXU to put these policies into practice.
Find out about current issues from students they represent and raise them at Student Council meetings. Decide on action to be taken.
Gain feedback from students on issues discussed at Council.
Bring together student issues so that students can be better informed and collectively take action.
Receive reports from the FXU Board of Trustees to check FXU resources are being used appropriately and remain in the best interests of students.
Check up on the work of the Presidents and Executive Officers to make sure they are doing what students elected them for. Decide on action to be taken if there is a shortfall or if they are not doing their job.
Ask questions!
Hear student voices!
Create change for the better for students!
How does the Student Council link with all students?
Members make themselves and ways of contacting them known to the cohort of students they are representing. Contact details for all members will be available on this page soon once the council is formed in the Autumn term for 2010-11. See the Presidents and Executive Officers web pages if there is something you would like to contact them about now.
